Boniva Directions
Take Boniva exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take BONIVA first thing in the morning at least 1 hour (60 minutes) before you eat or drink anything other than plain water, or take any other medicine. Take each dose with a full glass (6 to 8 ounces) of tap water or bottled water. Do not crush, chew, or suck the pills. Swallow them whole.

After taking BONIVA wait at least 1 hour before lying down (you may sit, stand, or do normal activities like read the newspaper or take a walk); eating or drinking anything except for plain water; taking other medicines including vitamins, calcium, or antacids (take your vitamins, calcium, and antacids at a different time of the day from the time when you take Boniva; It is important to take Boniva regularly to get the most benefit. Keep taking Boniva for as long as your healthcare provider tells you. Boniva will not work if you stop taking it. Your healthcare provider may tell you to exercise and take calcium and vitamin supplements to help your osteoporosis. Your doctor may want you to have blood tests or other medical evaluations during treatment with Boniva to monitor progress and side effects.

MISSED DOSE If you forget to take your BONIVA and your next scheduled BONIVA day is less than 7 days away, wait until your next scheduled BONIVA day to take your tablet. Do not take two tablets on the same day.

Boniva Side Effects
Stop taking Boniva and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); difficulty or pain when swallowing; pain or burning under the ribs or in the back; chest pain; or new or worsening heartburn. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur.

Continue to take Boniva and talk to your doctor if you experience diarrhea; nausea or upset stomach; or pain in extremities (arms or legs). Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome. Take Boniva exactly as prescribed in order to lower the chance of serious side effects.
