February – American Heart Month
We become
what we behold. We shape our tools and then our tools shape
us.
Coronary heart disease is
America's No. 1
killer. Stroke is No. 3 and a leading cause of serious
disability. That's why it's so important to reduce your risk
factors, know the warning signs, and know how to respond
quickly and properly if warning signs occur.
Blood Pressure
Deemed the
"silent killer," high blood pressure, or hypertension, does
play a role in one's chance of having a heart attack or
stroke. According
to recent estimates, nearly one in three
U.S. adults has
high blood pressure, but because there are no symptoms, nearly
one-third of these people are completely unaware that they
have it. In fact, many people have high blood pressure for
years without knowing it. Untreated or under-treated high
blood pressure can lead to heart attack, stroke, heart failure
or kidney failure. This is why high blood pressure is often
called the "silent killer." The only way to tell if you have
high blood pressure is to have your blood pressure checked.
FAST,
EASY, and PAINLESS – GET YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKED
REGULARILY.
Blood pressure
often increases with age. You should consider making lifestyle
changes now so your blood pressure stays as low as possible as
you get older.
|
Some important things
you can do to lower your blood pressure:
1.
Know what your blood pressure level
is, and what it should be.
2.
Talk to your doctor about your
blood pressure -
take medications as prescribed -
make lifestyle changes as
recommended
o
weight loss
o
daily physical activity
o
healthy diet
o
limit salt
o
limit alcohol

Heart Attack
Warning Signs
Some heart attacks are
sudden and intense - the "movie heart attack," where
no one doubts what's happening. But most heart attacks start
slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Often people affected
aren't sure what's wrong and wait too long before getting
help. Here are signs that can mean a heart attack is
happening:
-
Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve
discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a
few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel
like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or
pain.
-
Discomfort in other areas of the upper
body. Symptoms can include pain or
discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or
stomach.
-
Shortness of breath. May occur with or without chest
discomfort.
-
Other signs: These may include breaking out in
a cold sweat, nausea or
lightheadedness

What to do if you're
having a Heart Attack?
This could save your life!
If you begin experiencing the above
heart attack symptoms and don't think you can make it to
the nearest hospital, this is what you can do: Take a
deep breath and cough very vigorously. The cough must be
deep and prolonged. A deep breath and forceful cough
must be repeated about every two seconds without letting
up, until help arrives or you feel as though your heart
is beating normally again.
Why does this work? Deep breaths get oxygen into the
lungs, and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep
the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the
heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. This gives you
time to get to the hospital |
Stroke
Warning Signs
The American Stroke Association says
these are the warning signs of stroke:
-
Sudden numbness or weakness of the
face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the
body
-
Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or
understanding
-
Sudden trouble seeing in one or both
eyes
-
Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss
of balance or coordination
-
Sudden, severe headache with no known
cause

Recognizing a
Stroke If a neurologist can get to a
stroke victim within three hours, the effects can be
reversed. But the trick is getting a stroke recognized,
diagnosed and treated within three hours, which can be
difficult. The lack of knowledge on how to
spot a stroke could be deadly for many. Yet, it is as
simple as asking three little questions:
1. Ask the
individual to SMILE. 2. Ask him
or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. 3.
Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(e.g. It is sunny out today.)
If he or she has trouble with any
of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately. Your quick
thinking could result in prompt diagnosis and treatment
of the stroke, and prevention of brain damage. It could
also save a life!

Your
Comments
“Very nice customer service, and I am
looking forward to doing business with your company. So glad
to be able to find a reputable company where I can afford my
prescriptions.” V.M.
“I have informed
all of the companies I have contacted that I will continue to
buy from
Canada as it is
straightforward, reliable, efficient, easy to do and everyone
is most polite and helpful. Unless I can be convinced
otherwise, I am of the opinion the Medicare Prescription Drug
Plan has come about because of the combined efforts of the
Drug Companies, their Lobbyists and enough Members of Congress
so as to prevent Canadian Pharmacies from selling in the
United
States. If it were not for
companies like yours, I would be paying ridiculous amounts for
the prescriptions I need.” S.G.
“I think I have searched every Canadian
pharmacy, and have found you are the least expensive on most
drugs, and super fast with delivery. Thank You.”
