UPDATE: Canadian Drugs Okayed in Nevada!
NEVADA APPROVES REGULATIONS FOR SETTING UP SITE TO BUY CANADIAN DRUGS
The
Nevada State Board of Pharmacy has unanimously approved
regulations allowing consumers to import prescription drugs
from
Canada.
The board has agreed to
license Canadian pharmacies that meet that country's safety
standards and will post a Web site linking consumers to the
approved pharmacies.
The regulations must
first pass a legislative committee meeting May 4th before
being enacted, which
is expected to pass without problem. On May 5th, any
Nevada resident should be
able to legally buy Canadian prescription drugs from licensed
pharmacies.

Medicare Deadline is Looming
Seniors age 65
and older have two more weeks to enroll in a Medicare
prescription drug plan. And with the May 15 deadline
approaching, the final push is on by Medicare, social service
agencies and the drug plan companies to help people find a
plan that covers what they need, at a price they can afford.
Senior advocates are targeting their enrollment efforts in
counties where the total number of residents with some drug
coverage is low.
The
Medicare drug benefit is voluntary, but eligible seniors who
don't sign up by May 15 will incur a financial penalty when or
if they do sign up someday. That penalty will become a
permanent fee attached to each monthly premium. The penalty
amounts to 1 percent of the national average premium for each
month they delayed enrollment after May of this
year.
Canadian
online pharmacies are seeing an increase in orders as seniors
hit the "doughnut hole" of coverage where they have to pay a
sharp increase for their pharmaceuticals in the
U.S.
Sales
to
U.S.
customers are beginning to climb as more American seniors
better understand the complicated Medicare D regulations, but
particularly as they hit the so-called doughnut hole usually
between $2,250 and $5,100 where many aren't covered by the
U.S. government
plan. 'Why
pay full price?' Patients have the option of doing both
Medicare D and" using Canadian online pharmacies.

Tips for Taking Medicines
Safely PREVENTING
PRESCRIPTION DRUG ERRORS
Prescription
medications save lives and help improve the quality of life
for many people. But medicines can also pose a danger when
they are not used correctly. Errors can be relatively
insignificant: minor side effects that a patient wasn't warned
about. Or more serious: A patient may end up taking the wrong
medication, or the wrong dose, or no medicine at
all.
US government's Agency for Healthcare
Research and Quality prepared the following medicine safety
checklist:
1.
Ask questions about your
medications 2.
Bring all your medications to medical
appointments (Vitamins, herbs,
over- the-counter, and
alternative medicines of any kind, should also
be checked.) 3.
Make sure your medicine is what was
ordered & that you know how to take
it 4.
Ask about what side effects and what to
avoid while taking the medicine 5.
Check
whether you need laboratory tests
If you
get a handwritten prescription, look at it and read it. If
you're having trouble understanding what it says, it's likely
the pharmacist may have that same trouble. Ask for another
copy of it; ask for one to be printed out, because that can
really make a difference. Medicines can be powerful aids
to help keep us well. But experts remind us, using them
correctly requires checking and double checking, on the part
of the doctor, the pharmacist, and the
patient.
